Christophe Decarnin

It’s always sad to see a head designer leave his post, but the guessing game of who will step in to take the role is always fun!

Weeks after Galliano being fired from Dior it was announced that Christophe Decarnin had resigned as head designer for Balmain. Dercanin had been noticeably absent from the fall 2011 show and it was later revealed that he was seeking treatment for depression with rumor swirling that he was in a mental hospital being treated for mental illness.

However, the fashion world moves quickly and now rumors are going around that the person believed to be stepping in as Decarnin’s replacement will be some unknown designer. It was believed that Melanie Ward, who replaced Emmanuelle Alt once she became editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, would step in as head designer, but that may not be the case. According to British Elle, sources say that the owners would prefer to have an unknown designer take over. Dercanin was an unknown designer when he became head designer for Balmain, so this idea isn’t very far-fetched. Still, we’ll just have to wait and see who replaces Dercanin and how they will change Balmain.
