Venus Williams, the tennis superstar who needs no introduction, has recently relaunched her clothing line EleVen. The line was first introduced in 2007 as a special collection for Steve & Barry’s. Unfortunately, the line disappeared when the retailer closed approximately a year later. After working with Ralph Lauren and receiving a degree in fashion design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, EleVen is back and better than before.
The ready-to-wear Spring 2012 collection was designed by Venus with three words in mind: strong, simple and iconic. The Olympic gold medalist has evolved the style from “fun and crazy” to “classic and wearable for all”. The lifestyle line, which offers apparel for both men and women, perfects spring’s colorblocking and unique print trends combined with chic and stylish cuts. Venus is looking to find unique inspiration for each of her future collections, but the tennis pro’s fashion brainchild is more than just about looking fabulous.
“EleVen is really about being better than a 10,” she says of the line. “It’s bringing your personal best which makes you an 11, and not accepting the standards of what is considered the best. It’s overcoming defeats and being a champion in life. If you don’t look good, you won’t play well.”
The tennis champ knows a lot about overcoming defeats. Last year she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Sjogren’s Syndrome, that forced her to pull out of the U.S. Open. The tennis star most recently played in the Madrid Open and will continue to revive her career while focusing on her health.
EleVen is currently being sold online at ElevenbyVenus.com, tennis pro shops and specialty boutiques.Tags: Art Institute, celebrity fashion, Coloblocking, EleVen, Madrid Open, Ralph Lauren, Sjogren’s Syndrome, spring 2012, tennis, trends, US open, Venus Williams
