As a student at the University of Central Florida, 18-year-old Porsha Dossie knows first-hand how instantaneous the weather changes are and how important it is to be able to adapt your outfit at a moment’s notice. Orlando’s weather can go from rainy to hot or sunny to cold and breezy all in one afternoon, so it can be difficult to get ready in the mornings.
To combat with this, Porsha uses her surroundings for guidance. “I look at what other people are wearing that morning to see if it’s more hot or cold that day. If it seems hot, I’ll wear high-waisted shorts, a tank top, and flats. If I see a lot of long sleeves and pants, I’ll just add on leggings under the shorts, a leather jacket, and my favorite boots.”
Hmm, no jeans? – “I’m from Miami, so I don’t own pants,” she says with a laugh.
Besides the boots, which I must say are pretty great, I wonder what other fashion staples she has in her closet. “I love accessories. Earrings and rings, I have a lot of,” she answers.
A pair of her favorites are the feather earrings she’s wearing now. Another pair she shows me are the vintage Denmark coin earrings, purchased for about seven dollars from a thrift shop. What a steal! I ask if she does that often. “Not really, just every now and then. I get a lot of stuff from Marshall’s and Charlotte Russe. Oh, and I like One Clothing too.”
Her accessories also extend to her phone and bag as well, like the cassette tape cover she has for her Blackberry.
As for her favorite fashion icon, that would be Zoe Kravitz. “I think she wears a lot of cool stuff. She has funky style.”
So, what is the key to a good look? – “Love what you wear. If you like it, and you pull it off then that’s what matters,” she answers.Tags: charlotte russe, Marshalls, One Clothing, Porsha Dossie, University of Central Florida, Zoe Kravitz
