Every spring, Time releases their list of the 100 most influential people to include prominent politicians, activists and leaders. But this year, two fashion designers, Michael Kors and Jenna Lyons, prove that you don’t have to be in the business of politics to make the list! The designers were in good company with entertainment icons Jay-Z, Lena Dunham and Jennifer Lawrence

Lyons, executive creative director for J. Crew, has worked tirelessly during her 22 years at the company to create a brand that represents a style that many of all ages can enjoy. She was listed in the ‘Artists’ category on the list. She is truly an artist that all artists, designers or otherwise, can look up to for inspiration.

Prabal Gurung told Time that he first met Lyons when he was a contestant for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and Lyons was a judge. “I’ll never forget when I walked in: I saw her, immediately made eye contact with her, and she was the one person out of all the judges who was beaming — smiling from ear to ear,” he said.

“I thought, Thank God. That tells you a lot about her. She’s always on your side, not just as a person but as a designer for a billion-dollar brand.”

Kors was listed as a ‘Titan’ on the list and rightly so as he stands to one of the next billionaire designers. He was worked his way up the fashion food chain starting in high school and is now a household name in the world of fashion. I think we have only seen the beginning of Kors’ fashion take-over that continues to grow larger and larger. After all, who doesn’t love Michael Kors?

Zac Posen definitely does. He said, “He’s larger than life, a ball of energy and so warm and personable. It’s his love of people, life and culture that exudes in his fashion globally.”
