Tommy Lee Gets into Reality TV

Tommy Lee will start in a new reality TV show. Semi-washed-out rock stars doing reality TV is not the most surprising bit of news out there. However, Lee found the way to break the mold and make this news story worth writing about. There won’t be a show about Tommy Lee searching for love for Vh1, or a show about Tommy Lee’s crazy antics for E! but, there will be a Tommy Lee show about investigative travel for Syfy Channel.

Say what?!

According to Entertainment Weekly, the rocker will start on “Culture Shock with Tommy Lee.” The show’s premise is the following:

“The unscripted series stars Lee as he attempts to uncover various rituals, symbols, and other mysteries of secret societies. Lee will immerse himself in the history of each society, meet with former members and participate in their ceremonies.”

This is awesome! The selling point of this series is just that Tommy Lee is in it as one of last things I would imagine Tommy Lee as: a sociologist. Apparently, Syfy efforts to enter reality TV just started last year but the channel already understands how reality programming works. Take a person and throwing him/her out of his/her element, Survivor style ,or follow a celebrity. Syfy decided to combine the two elements, smart!

On his part, Lee is ecstatic to be involved:

“This is the first show that I’ve been a part of that will blow our minds and reveal things that will explain almost all our questions,” Lee says. “I’m very excited to be partnering with Syfy on this show. It’s going to be an amazing experience for all involved.”

I really like that Tommy Lee will be hosting this. This reminds me a little bit of James Cameron “Avatar.” Tommy will be like Jake Sullivan, completely clueless but honestly interested. This could be a learning experience that History Channel or Discovery Channel couldn’t match. Or, it could be simply fun to watch Tommy Lee shock the locals with crazy antics.
