One of the most coveted events of the year is the Monaco Rose Ball, a private charity event that raises money for the Princess Grace Foundation. The event is held in the Salle des Etoiles, and includes food, music and is graced by some of the most important members of the Monaco royal family. This year is the Rose Ball’s 150th anniversary.
In honor of this important year, Caroline, the Princess of Hanover has reached out to designer Karl Lagerfeld for his help on the party planning of this special event. Karl Lagerfeld has agreed, and plans on keeping with the theme of “La Belle Époque” which means, “the beautiful era” but adding a modern twist to it, coming up with the theme, “Belle et Pop.”
To keep with the new theme, Karl Lagerfeld plans on mixing musical genres from 17th Century France with modern day conventional music. For the musical part of the evening, classical violinists will perform, along with the singer Rita Ora and rapper Theophilus London. Excitedly, Karl Lagerfeld has announced that he will be designing Ora’s dress for the evening.
After looking at sketches of the dress Lagerfeld has designed for the popular singer, I am in love with how Lagerfeld incorporated his idea of mixing history with present into Ora’s outfit. With its long length, gold and pink colors and corseted bust, the dress has a Marie Antoinette feel to it, yet it seems as if it will open up in the front at one point, exposing the singers legs and Ora’s very modern personal style.
I am very excited to see what exactly Karl Lagerfeld does with the Monaco Rose Ball. I love that Rita Ora will be performing. I especially like the idea of Ora wearing an outfit that is classic yet modern, while performing her music that is fresh and different. The idea of mixing the old with the new is interesting for such a formal event, and I think this juxtaposition will lead to the creation of a very beautiful yet very fun night. It is also interesting to see how one era flows into the other as guests will enjoy the beauty and entertainment of both 17th Century and modern day France.
