THE GLAMOUR GRANNIES! Sounds like a team of fashionably matured superheroes, right?! Well, if Joyce Carpati, Linda Rodin, Lynn Dell, and Ilona Royce Smithkin were superheroes, their superpower would be making every young fashion model and any woman under the age of 65 seem totally uncool in comparison to them. Young, wrinkle-free, pre-menopausal fashion babes? Pshh…they’re sooo last season!

These four snazzy senior citizens are taking over the world…the fashion world that is! They’re the stars of Karen Walker’s Spring/Summer 2013 eyewear campaign, and they’re certainly giving all the “It” models-of-the-moment a run for their money!

Ari Seth Cohen, a New York City-based photographer and creator of the refreshingly original blog, Advanced Stylehas made it his mission to photograph the most stylish old ladies and gents roaming the streets of New York. He discovered Joyce, Linda, Lynn, and Ilona and immediately became friends with them, obviously appreciative of their all-around fabulousness. Once Karen Walker got wind of his work, she called him in to shoot her latest campaign featuring his four fave stylish grannies.

Cohen wanted to photograph the ladies at their homes in their own clothes to show off their one-of-a-kind personalities, and boy do they have personality! Joyce, an 80-year-old singer who also used to work at Cosmopolitan magazine says she doesn’t feel like she’s aged because she’s just having way too much fun! Linda, the youngest of the group at 65, is a stylist, owns her own beauty line, and has also modeled for J. Crew!

Lynn, who’s 80years old and runs her own boutique on the Upper East Side, lives by the notion that “we should express ourselves and not be copy cats and respect all for the way that they want to live” (karenwalkereyewear.com). Amen, sistah! And Ilona, the oldest of the bunch at the ripe age of 92, is an artist and can always be found wearing her outrageous, ginger-colored false lashes that match her faboo hairdo!

It’s already a well-known fact that Karen Walker makes the coolest sunglasses, but her latest campaign featuring Joyce, Linda, Lynn, and Ilona up the cool factor by…like…a gazillion. How great is it that women now have these four unconventional but totally wicked models to look up to and admire, and to also remind them that style only gets better with age! If I could be half as awesome as these spicy seniors when I reach the so-called “winter” of my life, I’d be one lucky chick!

They’re all totally gorgeous, too…no photoshop needed here! These fabulous females have got nothing to hide, making age their friend and using it to their advantage. They’re just having a good time! It’s so refreshing to see the fashion world, a world so engulfed in vanity, embrace and celebrate these golden oldies.

Old age is definitely the new black, folks. You want in on this trend? Make sure you’ve got your Senior Citizen Card because this, my friends, is an early bird special!

What do you think of these fabulous grannies and Karen Walker’s new campaign?
