The Coen Brothers

The Coen brothers (the duo who most recently directed the Oscar-nominated western True Grit) and the horror genre…Could it be a good fit? In a recent interview with Empire magazine, Ethan Coen dropped a hint about working on a script to a horror flick. This, however, was among the other scripts he and Joel are currently working on.

Just imagine. Arguably the most innovative and original directors of this generation taking on a horror film. Is it just me, or does this sound like an amazing idea?

The Coens taking on the horror genre could be a very promising thing. Recall for a moment 2009′s A Serious Man, a movie Ethan Coen said in the interview he considered “extremely un-Oscary.” But it still received a nomination for Best Picture.  True Grit was reportedly a surprise for the brothers too.

I could easily see a Coen brothers horror flick accidentally getting itself nominated, as well. The fact is that these guys rarely do any wrong.  I also wouldn’t mind if Ethan — speaking of the horror script — wasn’t kidding when he said, “Frances McDormand is the monster.”
