Teen pregnancy is a theme all over television these days. Shows like “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and movies such as 2007′s Juno portray how family and friends deal with the unexpected. Even this season of “Shameless” is focused around the same issue. One has to think about whether these shows and films are reflecting reality, or just focusing on a fad.

MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” is a reality show about teen pregnancy, which spun off into another series called “Teen Mom” with the same characters. It was just announced that the original “Teen Mom” cast will be calling it quits. However, “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom 3″ (and possibly “Teen Mom 2″) will remain on air.

These shows are controversial. Some believe they are glamorizing young parenthood. Whether or not this is true, these representations are bringing in a lot of money for the networks.
