Taylor Lautner at the "Abduction" premiere

Taylor Lautner stars in a new action thriller, Abduction, which premiered Thursday night in Hollywood.  After three years of playing werewolf Jacob Black, in the successful “Twilight Saga”, Lautner is ready to branch out to other films.  The only question is can he leave the fur behind him?

Lautner doesn’t seem too worried about finding new and interesting roles that will challenge him as a new actor.

“My dream is to continue to challenge myself in a wide variety of roles and genres,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet.  “That’s why I love this so much.  It’s different than anything I’ve ever done before and next I look forward to doing something different as well.”

As optimistic as Lautner might want to be it may be a little difficult for him to leave the persona of Jacob Black behind him.  We’ve seen others actors struggle with this such as Jaleel White (Steve Urkel for those who may not be aware) and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter).  They embodied the characters so much that they essentially became the characters – well in the fans eyes they did.

It was pretty hard to ignore the screaming fans on the side lines at the premiere.  Some were overly hype and some even shed a few tears.  It’s no surprise they are all pumped about the recently released “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 trailer.”

Lautner may have a better chance of leaving his stereotypical role behind and being successful with finding other roles.  One, he is certainly a handsome man with physique out of this world.  Secondly, he’s branching out at a perfect time, which will make his transition a lot smoother.  It’s in the middle of the Twilight Saga so fans will see him in a different scenario broadening their perspective on him, so he doesn’t have to go through that awkward phase after the Saga is over.

Abduction promises to be an action packed thriller.  The film also stars Danny Glover, Sigourney Weaver, Alfred Molina, Michael Nyqvist, Maria Bello, and Jason Issacs. Movie opens September 23, 2011.
