Matt Mondanile goes to the beach - exactly what you should do while listening to his music.

Summer is rapidly approaching, and while that means a variety of things to a variety of people, for me it means finding the right mix of music to play in the background of all the barbecues and beach hangs that make the season so special. And I must admit, this first track may very well be the ever-elusive, all-important epitome of a summer jam.

Ducktails, for anyone unaware, is the solo project of Matt Mondanile, who is perhaps best known for his involvement with New Jersey beach bums and indie darlings Real Estate. The overlap in sound and attitude is immediately apparent, but Ducktails also exhibits elements of a more suburban Best Coast or a beachier War on Drugs. Whatever the best way to classify the music (and the track “Hamilton Road” in particular), it’s hard to deny the fact that it’s both unbelievably catchy and mildly soothing – like the way the summer sun shines down onto you, warming your whole body and lulling you into an unavoidable state of relaxation.
