Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks

Stephen Malkmus has put his solo career on hold and joined The Jicks again.  Malkmus first achieved fame as the lead singer of influential indie rock band Pavement. On August 22, 2011, the 5th post-Pavement album from Stephen Malkmus and the 3rd or 4th to bear the Jicks name, Mirror Traffic, will be released.

They have also produced a new single, “Senator,” which hasn’t hit the radio yet because of a certain word.

In order to play “Senator” on the radio, they must replace the word “blowjob” in their lyrics instead of bleeping it out.  The band has set up a contest called “What Does the Senator Want” where fans can suggest a new lyric to replace the word. The phrase goes, “What the senator wants is (blank).” Participants have so far chosen words and phrases such as “a back rub” or “a web blog.”  The contest ends on August 23.

The winner will get their lyric recorded by Steve, a one of a kind 7″ single with the original “Senator” A-side and their version on the B-side.  Check out the song (original words included) below:
