While some celebrities like Emilio Estevez stick with their real name on and off the big screen, some, like Estevez’ father and brother choose “stage names.” We adore Estevez’ father Ramón Estévez but know him as Martin Sheen. We also are pretty entertained by Emilio’s younger brother, Carlos Estevez, or the infamous Charlie Sheen. So, why do celebs change their names? Are they just bored, creative, or maybe just feel that because they can do it, they might as well? What ever the case may be, we’re revealing to you some of our favorite stars and the names they were actually born with.
While “Born This Way” singer, Lady Gaga was actually born this way, as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, we can see how Gaga may be a little catchier than Stefani. Plus that’s already taken by Gwen — who must have been okay with using her real name.
Heading a little bit younger, we come to Miley Ray Cyrus, famous for being the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer’s daughter. Born Destiny Hope Cyrus, “Miley” comes from a shortened form of her childhood nickname “smiley”… because she was always smiling as a kid. And “Ray” is after her grandfather. What a creative family!
Speaking of 90′s country music, next Up! is Shania Twain, the country star born as Eileen Regina Edwards. Edwards changed her name to Shania which means “on my way” in Ojibwa. Cute, Shania!
However, not all stars that choose to change their names have a cute reason behind it. Onika Tanya Maraj is one of the biggest hip hop artist right now, but we know her better as the neon-wearing Nicki Minaj. Although back in 2010, she attempted changing her name to Roman Zolanski, that didn’t catch on. It seems that Nicki Minaj is just a play on her original name. Hmm, creative or just lazy? We don’t know, but it works!Tags: Artists real names, Artists use stage names, Charlie Sheen, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Shania Twain, Stars with Stage Names
