Long gone are the days when we first set gaze on Mara Wilson, the star of the 90’s movie “Matilda” – a movie so iconic that it has been deeply engrained in the memories of our childhood. You know, whether we watched it or not.
But in light of the recent nationwide tragedies that are the Hollywood Hot Mess Brigade cough cough Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan cough cough, Wilson decided it was time to speak up.
“Not many child stars make it out of Hollywood alive or sane,” Wilson wrote on Cracked.com. “And at any given time, there are at least three former ones having very public breakdowns.”
Cracked.com, notorious for their informative list articles with a humorous spin, posted an essay by Wilson entitled “7 Reasons Child Stars Go Crazy.”
Among the reasons – and probably the one that makes the most sense at this day and age – is the need to rebel, but the inability to do so.
“Having to live up to your fan base is a little like having to deal with a million strict parents who don’t actually love you,” she wrote. “They reward you for your cuteness and cleverness, but are quick to judge and punish. And they do not want you ever to grow up. How do you react? The way any sullen teenager does: You get resentful, and as soon as you have the freedom, you act out.”
I personally believe Wilson has, in all honesty, inserted the key into Pandora’s Box. The inside perspective really puts things in alignment, and like I said before in a previous article about Bynes, she cracked under the pressure. Perhaps Lohan and Bynes should have a cute sleepover so they could read this article and check for symptoms.
