Shannen Doherty

You know you’ve seen them. They lurk between segments of Jersey Shore re-runs, striking when you’re most vulnerable – hopelessly bored and sleep-deprived. The Education Connection ads assault us with their catchy jingles sung by waitresses and corn-dog peddlers who always seem to be surrounded by a disturbing number of condiment dispensers.

Now, it appears that former 90210 star Shannen Doherty is “getting her degree in her own time” in the newest commercial for the website. The advertisement features Doherty in a half-dozen costumes showcasing an equally sparse catalog of degrees such as business, criminal justice and technology (what?).  And it gets worse: There’s not even a corny song to get stuck in our heads.

Earlier this year, Doherty found herself in some trouble with City National Bank over an unpaid loan of $93,000. The commercial is a step in the right direction for the Charmed actress, whose recent ventures haven’t been blessed with the best fortune — not since her extremely short tenure on the hit ABC show Dancing With the Stars.

Fortunately, Doherty is set to debut a new reality show chronicling her marriage to photographer Kurt Iswarienko next January, so I doubt she’ll have the time to finish up that Liberal Arts degree.
