Scientists create makeup to protect soldiers from burns during battle

Scientists have officially created a life-saving cover-up, but sorry ladies, it’s not for evening out your skin tone or covering pimples. Presented by a professor at the University of Southern Mississippi, the new makeup has the potential to protect soldiers from “the searing temperatures of roadside bomb blasts” firefighters from serious burns.

Ecouterre says that the new substance is made to protect the skin from high-heat and high-pressure waves from bombings. The heat that radiates from these bombings can be hotter than 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

“The thermal blast lasts only two seconds, but it can literally cook the face, hands, and other exposed skin”, says Robert Lochead, who presented the new makeup at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society. The new makeup is to be applied like sunblock, and has been tested to shield off 1st degree burns for up to 60 seconds.

The product is still in the experimenting stages, but is doing well so far. The next potential products for the scientists will be to incorporate the same concepts for clothing and tents. Scientsits also hope to make a colorless version of the makeup for firefighters.

The work that these scientists are doing is inspirational. What’s better than protecting our soldiers and firefighters from danger while they give their lives to protect us? I hope the scientists keep working hard to get these products on the market to protect our loved ones. This is definetley an exception to the crazy war tools out there to protect us from our enemies.
