In 2011, the hearts of womankind unanimously broke when we heard news that the world’s perfect man, Ryan Gosling, had a new leading lady in his life.

When his real-life relationship with the lovable Rachel McAdams didn’t turn out to be the lifelong love story we (hysterically) watched play out on screen in The Notebook (the couple called it quits in 2008), I wished Ryan the best and hoped he would find love once again. Things didn’t exactly go as planned, and when he didn’t fall in love with me (unbelievable!), but instead with the devastatingly beautiful Cuban-American actress, Eva Mendes, I was a little bitter (okay a lot bitter…Hitch is still tough to watch).

Two years later their relationship is still going strong (ugh), and word is that Ryan has just cast his real-life leading lady as one of his fictional leading ladies in his new movie that’ll mark his writing and directorial debut. Eva will star in her boyfriend’s How to Catch a Monster, which is being described as “a modern day fairytale” with “elements of fantasy noir” (Deadline.com). I know what you’re hoping and no…Eva was not cast as the monster. Rather, Eva will be playing “Cat,” a “prominent member of a gang called the Big Bad Wolf Club.” In other words, she’ll be playing a badass chick, and with a name like “Cat,” there’s no way she’s not going to look hot. Damn you, Eva!

Okay, enough about Eva. Let’s talk about Ryan for a second. He may not have much experience as a writer or director (okay…he has no experience as a writer or director), but he’s perfect in every way, so I’m pretty sure he’ll be amazing at this new gig. Ryan also has the support of the film’s producer, Mark Platt, who he worked with on Driveand according to Mark, Ryan’s script is “beautifully haunting and he has a very clear vision of how he will bring it to life. His ability to draw audiences into his world as an actor will serve him well as a filmmaker” (Deadline.com).

Mad Men star (and woman known to drive men mad) Christina Hendricks, who was Ryan’s co-star in Drive, has been cast as the main character of the film as ”Billy, a single mother of two, who is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.”

Ryan definitely gets props for originality! This film sounds seriously cool. No word yet if he’ll cast himself in the film as well, but Ryan will begin his role as director this spring when they’re set to start shooting. The movie itself won’t be out until some point next year.

This is excellent news. If the movie does well, it’ll be just another reason to love Ryan Gosling, and if his movie bombs, he’s going to need a shoulder to cry on. He won’t go running to Eva because she’ll probably just remind him of the movie’s failure. That leaves me! I’m here for you, Ryan! Along with…ahem…like, every other girl on the planet.

What do you think? Is Ryan going to be the next “It” director? (No doubt he’ll be the hottest! No offense, Ben Affleck.)
