The man who put the R in R&B, Mr. R. Kelly, had to cancel his New York book party to promote his first autobiography, Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, due to unknown medical issues. He also planned to sign personal copies of the memoir, and he intended to promote his new album, Write Me Back. In addition, R. Kelly was suppose to appear on “The Jimmy Fallon Show” and NBC’s “Today.”

“R. Kelly is suffering from a mysterious health emergency that’s caused the singer to cancel an event in New York this evening,” according to TMZ. It has not been reported on exactly what his health issues are at the moment, but apparently it seems to be extremely severe.

BET reported that R. Kelly’s health issue may have resulted from the vocal-cord surgery that was performed on him last July, in which an abscess was removed from his vocal chords. The three-time Grammy award winner has apologized for any inconvenience that this incident may have caused on anyone.

Since EURWEB reported that it is unclear of how long R. Kelly may be sidelined, fans should still purchase the memoir and the album, as both were claimed to be influential. In the book, the soul legend “shares his life story through episodic tales and exclusive color photographs, exploring his meteoric rises and sudden falls,” based on a synopsis provided by City Guide NY.

Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me by R Kelly

According to many fans who have read the book, R. Kelly gives people a chance to view him as a talented artist for his accomplishments, but also as an ordinary person who makes mistakes and learns from them. Stories and discussions regarding the alleged sex tape are not addressed in the memoir, but Kelly does give juicy details about his life as a successful entertainer in the music industry.

Jesse Washington provides a detailed review of the memoir at Philly.com, but everyone should go out a grab a copy of the book!
