The people of Britain are preparing for four days of extravagant festivities to celebrate 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The United Kingdom’s Diamond Jubilee weekend officially begins today and will conclude on June 5th. The weekend will be full of British patriotism, much like the America’s Memorial Day, as well as a series of street parties, flotillas and outdoor concerts.
The celebration will include performances by pop-ska band Madness, Paul McCartney, Elton John and Stevie Wonder to honor the Queen’s time on the throne. Madness will actually perform on the roof of the Buckingham Palace on Monday!
These artists may seem too “cool” for the 86 year old Queen, but 10 years ago during her 50th anniversary, artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Ricky Martin and Queen’s Brian May performed for her. Elizabeth II seems to have surprisingly modern taste in music!
U.S. media giants such as CNN and ABC have already sent reporters to London to cover the big celebration, so you can be certain that you won’t miss this important day in British history.
