Prabal Gurung used social media to release pictures of his first t-shirts.
The designer, best known for designing stunning and bold red carpet dresses, is expanding his line and promoting it by releasing the first picture on Tumblr. Most designers begin their expansion with accessories like shoes or handbags, but Gurung is taking a route similar to that of Proenza Schouler. Gurung is designing sportswear–specifically, t-shirts.
The shirts will be in stores just in time for spring and will cost anywhere from $200 to $300. In the caption beneath the photo, Gurung wrote, “Hope u guys luv these T shirts we r doing the 1st time as much as I do.”
The purple print seen in the picture is similar to a lot of the print and color seen in Gurung’s Spring RTW 2012 collection. That collection was inspired by printmaker Araki’s Sensual Flowers series, and Gurung collaborated with him to create a “floral motif”. The collection was stunning, and it was one of my favorites for the whole season. Hopefully most of what was seen in the spring collection will also be seen on the t-shirts.Tags: Araki, Prabal Gurung, print, proenza schouler, Sensual Flowers, spring 2012, T-shirts, Tumblr
