“We’re gonna meet Oprah!” Khloe Kardashian exclaimed as the anticipated interview between the Kardashian “klan” and the talk show queen began.
For the first time ever, the world got to see the famous family chat with Oprah on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on her OWN channel on Sunday. As the cameras rolled and the family awaited Oprah’s arrival, they were excited—nervous even, which was surprising to see from a family known for their reality show and one that seems to always be in the public eye.The interview began with Oprah sitting down with the four Kardashian children in the Jenner home in Hidden Hills, California. There, viewers found out some surprising details like how Kourtney is still not comfortable with being famous and how Robert thinks the words “celebrity” and “famous” connotes arrogance and hates their use.
“For me, I’m still not comfortable with being famous,” Kourtney said. That’s a little hard to believe though and Oprah voiced the skepticism. “Nobody would believe that the Kardashians would be uncomfortable being famous,” Oprah said, and it’s true. How is the world to believe the family doesn’t like the fame when they’re back on E! every season with their hit show. They’re answer to that, however, is that they’re just being themselves.
The kids even opened up about their parent’s divorce. Robert admits to being in the dark about Kris’ affair and Kourtney gives some insight on why her and boyfriend Scott Disick are not yet married.
“Maybe I’m kind of scared of marriage because of that,” Kourtney said. “I’d like to [get married] someday for my children, but I know I’m just as committed if I’m married or not married,” she said.
Next, Oprah chatted with the mother that started it all, Kris Jenner, who sheds some tears during the tête-à-tête. Kris recalls a letter she wrote to the late Robert Kardashian and their relationship prior to his death. The topic led to Robert’s role in the O.J. Simpson trial. “I was disappointed and I was confused,” Kris said when she discovered Robert agreed to represent Simpson. When Oprah pressed her on her thoughts on the trial Kris said, “I just think that it’s not fair to keep commenting on that or saying what my opinion is because of his kids.”
Momager also opened up about people saying she’s exploited her kids, which she denies. Kris says she’s lucky to be able to get paid to spend time with her family. “It’s definitely a dynamic that happens once in a lifetime”, Kris said. “We let it all hang out,” she said about the show that catapulted the family to its status today.
Kim then had her heart-to-heart with Oprah, where they talked about everything from Kim’s sex-tape to her 72-day marriage and subsequent divorce.
“Would you be where you are had there not been a sex tape,” Oprah asks to which Kim replies “That’s pretty much how I was introduced to the world. It was a negative way, so I feel like I had to work ten times harder to get people to see the real me,” Kim said.
Kim also revealed that her marriage wasn’t a stunt. “We don’t do anything for ratings. I think anyone who knows me knows that I fall in love hard,” Kim said. So why such a quick divorce and what happened to turn the fairy tale into a nightmare? Here Kim acknowledges she barely knew Kris Humphries when they decided to get married. “Once we moved in, I knew that he was not the one,” Kim said.
For all the bad press Kim received on the divorce, she realized it made her a better person and she’s learned from her choices. “I feel like I’ve had an epiphany over the last year for what I’ve been through, and I am that changed person just from my own experiences,” Kim said.
As part 1 of the interview came to a close, audiences had been given a glimpse into the Kardashian household but there were many questions still left unanswered and more family members left to be interviewed. Viewers will have to wait until next week Sunday to see the second part though.
Before tonight’s episode ended however, Kim said “I want babies. I want my forever, and I want my fairy tale.” Oprah promptly responded, ”Is Kanye West your new fairy tale?” Oprah then asked and does the dirty deed of ending with a cliff hanger- and an incentive to hook audiences into watching next week.
