Obama at the White House Correspondents' Dinner

Stunningly, while Obama was fully aware of the impending Bin Laden mission, the President was still able to crack a smile or two at Donald Trump’s expense this weekend.

Trump’s laughable (I hope) effort at becoming president has led him to make a lot of uncomfortable accusations.  Even Cher was recently miffed.  But the major drilling point was, once again, Obama’s birth certificate.  The President eventually produced the document — after three years of right-wing pressure — but took the opportunity to knock Trump off his high horse at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday.

It seems the President has an even more epic origin story than we could have hoped for…and it involves a monkey with a red butt.  Watch the President yuck it up below:

The President was joined in his roast of Trump by SNL writer and sole Weekend Update newscaster, Seth Meyers.  Trump remained stoic and unamused during the whole thing.  When the President relinquished the mic to the SNL comedian, I half expected Trump to get up and punch Meyers in the face.  And, in a way, he might have deserved it.

Meyers not only attacked Trump for his presidential ambitions, which deserve to be taken to task, but for his hair (okay, obvious), his accent, and even went as far as to imply that Mr. Trump is racist.  Check out Meyers’ Ricky Gervais-esque moment below:

Meyers’ comments are definitely in the vein of his Weekend Update quips, but the flashes between Trump in the audience and Meyers on stage make the exchange a little more awkward than hilarious.  I mean, did Donald Trump just run over Meyers’ cat in the parking lot or something?  That’s some serious venom there.

I understand the anger at Trump.  His actions and words against the President have been horrible, and the prospect of having Mr. Trump as President is enough to make me sign up for a long-term visa now.  But in the public lampooning of Donald Trump, the President has once again set an admirable precedent.  Poking fun without inducing embarrasment will always be the classiest route, and our President, in his James Bond suit and bowtie, is nothing short of classy…even when he’s pissed.
