Say it ain’t so! According to Us Weekly, our favorite on-screen and off-screen couple, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, have reportedly split after more than three years of dating.

The late couple began their romance back in 2011, and when they began working together in late 2009, the 23-year old Vampire Diaries actress firmly believed in separating business and pleasure. However, even Nina can’t resist Ian’s sexy smolder, so luckily, she ended up with both. Last fall, she opened up to Seventeen magazine about falling for her 33-year old costar hunk:

But sometimes you can’t help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long – which I did for a really, really long time.”

Such a tragedy, considering their connection. Hopefully, there will be more Damon and Elena love and moments on screen to rekindle the Nina and Ian romance. An insider reveals that Nina and Ian are “consummate professionals [and] will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started.”

I’m glad they ‘ended’ it on great terms. Neither Nina nor Ian have made any comments regarding this issue, so until more evidence of their alleged breakup arises, I shall declare their breaking news nothing but a rumor.

But if their time has really ended, then hopefully their love will rise again… like their vampire alter-egos.
