Nicole Richie has been a long-time trendsetter in the world of fashion, and recently she was finally honored for her fashion savvy. Nicole Richie has been named the Style Influencer of the Year at the Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards. The ceremony took place on Monday, November 7 in New York, with attendees including models Agyness Deyn and Petra Nemcova and designers such as Christian Louboutin and Diane von Furstenberg.
Beginning her career as a reality TV star alongside socialite Paris Hilton in The Simple Life, Nicole has gone through changes as she “cleaned up her act post the show and friendship” and now is one of numerous television personalities to venture into the design arena. First debuting in 2008, Richie’s House of Harlow 1960 jewelry line was then followed by the womenswear line Winter Kate last year. Richie, looking both elegant and beautiful in a black, cleavage-baring, column gown with pronounced shoulder pads and holding a House of Harlow clutch, definitely played the part of style icon at the ceremony.
However, it was the designer’s easygoing attitude towards personal style that made us love Richie even more. “It’s not that deep for me,” she confesses to WWD. “It’s whatever I feel comfortable in at that time.” Rather, her first concern are her consumers that defines the measure of her success, when she states, “To me, success isn’t measured by dollar signs,” she explains. “It’s really about paying attention to feedback and talking to my customer.”
As for her empire, “I want to make sure that I take the time and make each category the best that it can be,” she continues. “I tend to move very slowly and I do that on purpose so that I can make sure that everything that I design really is the best version of what it is.” And so indeed as her attitude and hard work has led her to the Style Influencer of the Year.
One thing to learn and remember from Nicole Richie is that her success proves that celebrity fashion lines can gain credibility in the fashion industry, especially because embracing such lines can cause a bit of hesitation for some.Tags: Accessories Council, Accessories Council Excellence Awards, ACE, House of Harlow 1960, Nicole Richie, style influencer of the year, winter kate
