It seems as if Lana Del Rey has been in hiding ever since the critics tried to eat her alive. The soulful songstress surprised everyone when she appeared out of thin air with her sultry voice and her perfectly placed looks. Her music was refreshingly unique, but when she performed live it seemed as if she was in another world.
Critics didn’t enjoy her “lost” personality and took every chance they could to bash her. Even when she went on to explain who she truly is as a person and artist, internet junkies continued to let out their wrath of hate on her. So she fell back for a few months and focused on her music until she was ready to hit those critics with another shot. Well, watch out! Because “National Anthem,” is going to be that shot to wrap this fight up!
The Anthony Mandler-directed video takes place in the 1960′s and Lana Del Rey plays Marilyn Monroe as well as Jackie Kennedy with A$AP Rocky as JFK. The video starts out in black-and-white with Lana Del Rey singing the famous Marilyn Monroe version of “Happy Birthday.” The video moves on to showing Lana Del Rey as Jackie and A$AP as JFK living a happy, romantic life with even some modern hip-hop dance moves taking place in between. The video comes in perfect timing for Fourth of July next week and as well for Lana Del Rey’s fans.
Now, I don’t know if this will keep the hounds off Lana Del Rey forever, but it will definitely shut them up for this round!
