Big Boi and Janelle Monae on the Set of "Be Still"

One of my new favorite female artists, Janelle Monae, teamed up with fast-footed rapper Big Boi for a track from his 2010 album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.  Now, their track “Be Still” has an eerie yet vintage new video.

In it, Monae looks a bit like Dracula set against a half-animated city background that’s a cross between New York in the early 80s and something out of the Twilight Zone.  Big Boi hovers through a strangely saturated poolroom scene that seems like a borrowed porno set from the 70s.  And if all that isn’t enough to make you want to watch it, there are cheerleaders!

Check out the video for “Be Still” below:

It always puts a smile on my face to see Janelle Monae anywhere, especially anywhere with Big Boi.  Considering “Be Still” and Monae’s track featuring Big Boi, “Tightrope,” it seems like the two make an unstoppably good team.  Here’s hoping for more collaborations in the future!
