Yunalis Zarai a.k.a. Yuna is a 24-year-old singer who has captured many music fans with her cover of “Come As You Are” by Nirvana. This isn’t the usual acoustic cover that you see all over Youtube. Yuna shapes the melody into her own interpretation, a haunting song that keeps you lingering around to hear more of it. Her voice is quite angelic and soft in this song. Hear the cover after the jump.
Yuna grew up in a Muslim household in Malaysia. While attending law school at the age of 19, she began to learn how to strum a guitar and is now signed to Fader Label from New York City. She is passionate about fashion design too and manages her own boutique called I Am Jet Fuel, based in Malaysia. She toured with famous R&B and soul singer Raphael Saadiq back in May this year. Yuna’s debut U.S. EP, Decorate, was also released earlier this year, with a full version coming out this summer.
“Music is one of the most powerful forces of unification. It has the power to heal, the power to help, the power to inspire, and the power to change,” Yuna writes on her website. She has been inspired by No Doubt, The Cranberries, and Fiona Apple.Tags: acoustic, alternative, Asian, Come As You Are, Malaysian, Nirvana, pop, song cover, Yuna, Yunalis Zarai
