Missy Elliot caught up with People Magazine and talked about her music, weight loss and even revealed having a disease. Missy explained that she has been battling Graves’ disease–an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid–since 2008. Fighting to stay healthy, Missy has been working out and eating healthier in order to minimize the complications of the disease. She has battled with mood swings, weight changes and uncontrollable body functions.
“I was driving and trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed,” Elliot stated. “I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad–I couldn’t even use a pen.”
Though Elliot is still battling the disease without a cure, she continues to work on her music with longtime friend and producer, Timbaland.
She will be featured on VH1′s “Behind The Music” where she will discuss her struggle with the disease, her upcoming music and secrets from her past. Fans will be able to get to know Missy behind the scenes and support the artist through this tough time. The show premieres Wednesday, June 29.Tags: Behind the Music, Graves Disease, Missy Elliot, People Magazine, Timbaland, VH1
