Mike Posner will headline at mtvU’s (MTV’s college music program) Video Music Awards Tour starting July 28th in Massachusetts and ending on August 5th in Texas. The “Cooler Than Me” singer will be performing exclusively at Six Flags theme parks along the way.
23-year-old Posner is a singer-songwriter-producer whose album 31 Minutes to Takeoff, released last summer, put him in the spotlight with his chart-topping single “Cooler Than Me.”
Though the single made instant waves, it had humble beginnings. The young musician recorded “Cooler Than Me” in his dorm room at Duke University using a cheap microphone. Most of his production and recording happened while he was still a full-time student (he graduated with a 3.59 GPA by the way). So how did he get discovered? He released his album on the Internet and was discovered by people his own age. His popularity led to Sony’s J Records.
Although he aims to be original, he told Coed magazine that he could see his music as a mix of Outkast, Paul Simon, and Deadmau5. Posner has already collaborated with famous hip hop artists Kid Cudi and Wale. His most recent song release features Lil’ Wayne in the “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” remix.
Posner’s music style is a “pop-like” R&B, and many songs refer to love and relationships. His songs are quite catchy with a positive sound, even if his song “Please Don’t Go” begs for his love to stay, he doesn’t sound like he’s begging at all. His songs are even good for sing-alongs, so buy your Six Flags tickets and sing along with Posner this summer!Tags: college, Cooler Than Me, Duke University, electropop, Hip-Hop, Mike Posner, pop, Producer, R&B, singer, songwriter
