Midseason Television Preview

Since we are about half way through January, new television shows are beginning to premiere. With so many options, it can be challenging to decide which ones to actually check out. Have no fear! I’ve narrowed the list down and provided you with this season’s must watch shows.

Are You There, Chelsea?

If you’re a fan of Chelsea Handler, you’re going to love this show! Laura Prepon plays Handler while Handler plays her older sister, Sloane, in this hilarious sitcom. The show follows the memoir Handler wrote about all the crazy stories that have occurred in her life, promising to be full of laughs. Let’s face it, if Chelsea is the basis of this sitcom, there are sure to be some seriously funny moments. The show recently premiered January 11th on NBC and airs regularly on Wednesdays at 8:30/7:30c.

The Firm

This is Josh Lucas’ return to television and man did he pick a good show! This NBC drama is based on the blockbuster film and best selling novel by John Grisham, The Firm, and continues the story of Mitchell McDeere. It follows McDeere, his family, and his law firm as they try to rebuild their lives and stay out of the limelight after being in witness protection for ten years, which proves to be difficult. The show premiered January 8th, but there is plenty of time to catch up!

Luck

HBO has done it again with another gritty drama! The drama takes a look into the world of horse racing, with all sides of the sport, including the owners, jockeys, and gamblers, to show what the sport is really like. With Dustin Hoffman as the face of the all-star cast, this should be one drama you won’t be able to stop watching. It premieres Sunday, January 29th at 9/8c.

Smash

There is a new musical in town, and it’s time you pay attention! From executive producers Steven Spielberg, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, “Smash” gives a look into the drama filled production of a Broadway musical and what it takes to make it there. As producers, actors and songwriters work on a new musical about Marilyn Monroe’s life, we get to sit back and watch the drama unfold, with original songs included! It premieres Monday, February 6th at 10/9c on NBC.

The Voice

This singing competition was such a hit that there it’s back for another season. “The Voice” returns to NBC and promises more singing and more competition, between the competitors and the judges’ teams! New voice mentors are also coming to the show and should make for great entertainment. It premieres Sunday, February 5th after the Super Bowl XLVI.

Fashion Star

Calling all fashionistas out there! This new competition series is the newest one in the fashion industry. Hosted and produced by Elle Macpherson this show features fourteen unknown designers in the pursuit to launch their collections at three of the largest retailers in America and win a multi-million dollar prize! The show also features celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos to help these designers! It premieres Tuesday, March 13th 9/8c.
