The Constume Institute hosted their annual gala, also known as the party of the year or the Oscars of fashion, where an array of celebs hit the red carpet in couture — some missed the mark on the theme of “Punk: Chaos to Couture “while others were spot on. Stars like Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway showed out with some of the most daring looks of the night. Madonna also looked very punk. There are so many crazy looks to talk about!
Anne Hathaway sported her newly bleached blond hair to the event where she was adorned in vintage 1992 Valentino. The dark gown contrasted well with her new blonde locks. In my opinion, while there were other crazy looks and lots of spikes on the red carpet, she defintely brought the biggest shock factor with her new look. I’m sure everyone had to take a double take when she walked in. Does Miley Cyrus have a sister?
Miley also brought her best punk to the red carpet. “I’m feeling good, so punk,” she said. She wore a Marc Jacobs gown with spiked hair. She completed the look with a red lip. I thought she certainly looked punk, but Maxim’s hottest chick wasn’t looking very hot. She could have chosen an equally punk gown that flatters her in a better way.
Another star left people scraching their heads. For some reason, Nicole Richie chose to complete her look with grayish white hair to match her white dress from Topshop. I’m sorry, but I didn’t even notice the dress because I was too busy staring at her hair. She also looks fraily thin. Did she age 20 years overnight or something?Maybe that is punk in her mind, but it didn’t work for me whatsoever. I think the dress would have gotten more attention with her normal colored hair.
I can’t talk about the evening without mentioning Madonna’s look. She went all out with the theme in Givenchy Haute and I would expect no less of her. The black hair, the chains, and the fishnet all work together to create her punk look. This looks like an outfit she would put together for a regular red carpet. It might not work there, but I think it was perfect for this event. I like to see the stars having fun with the punk trend like this.
