Katrise Jones and Lil Kim

Did you know Lil Kim is a successful business woman? According to BET, the female rapping legend plans to open her fifth salon in North Carolina, due to booming business and raving reviews.

Lil Kim and cousin Katrise Jones first opened “Salon De Swa” in 1999, then successfully piloted the business all over North Carolina, hoping to spread as far north as New York City and as south as Atlanta. The team hopes their expansion in North Carolina will allow the business to flourish even more.

“This new location allows us to cater to a larger customer base and better serve the needs of not only Charlotte, but its surrounding areas,” Katrise said, according to BET.

The salon’s services boast everything from relaxers to wigs to eye-lash sew-ins. The salon also seems to have a broad community outreach program, offering businesses classes, “affordable haircare” and “numerous jobs” throughout the country.

I think the expansion of Kim’s hair service business is great—especially since it seems to benefit the community. Getting your hair done can be extremely expensive, so making beauty attainable and “recession-free” — as the website calls it — is a great idea. Who wouldn’t want a high quality hair-do for a low price? The fact that you can take business classes and learn about owning your own business doesn’t hurt either. Kim’s fifth salon seems like a promising venture.  I wish her the best of luck!
