Paltrow in Pucci

For some, prime-time television’s annual night out is all about a bunch of gold statues. The rest of us know what really matters — who wore what. In the days following major award shows, best (and worst) dressed lists are bound to crop up like dandelions. The Pucci ensemble donned by Gwyneth Paltrow this weekend has landed her on a few of both lists.

Haters point out that it’s really hard to tell which parts are lined and which are see-through; they have a point. Others simply laugh at the resemblance to a belly dancer or “I Dream of Jeannie.”

Despite the rampant criticism, I’m placing her on my personal “Best Dressed” list.  The dress is a chic nod to the 90s trend, yet she doesn’t look like the sixth member of the Spice Girls. The black sequin detailing over nude tulle was unique and not physically unflattering, as the only thing that could ever make Paltrow look anything other than thin and toned would be a fat suit.

Gwyneth probably recognized that many watching might compose a few snarky tweets, but it was the second thing she tried on and she loved it.  She wore it with confidence I can’t help but admire!
