Lauryn Hill

Former Fugees singer and Grammy winner Lauryn Hill confirmed the birth of her sixth child, after a frightening delivery where the umbilical cord was wrapped around the newborn’s neck. Hill and the newborn, whose name still remains a mystery, are said to both be in good condition.

However, controversy swarms the paternity of the infant. Hill, 36, and  Rohan Marley, 39, son of the infamous reggae artist Bob Marley, previously had five children. Marley has notedly denied fathering the newborn on numerous social medias, calling the question as to whom exactly does this newborn belong. Rumors of infidelity during Hill’s pregnancy also surfaced, claiming that Marley had an affair with a Brazilian model.

It’s no surprise Hill spoke out about the rumors: “Mr. Marley and I have a long and complex history about which MANY inaccuracies have been reported since the beginning. To speculate without the facts can only cause people to form WRONG conclusions. We both value privacy and for that reason defend and preserve our right to it. Contrary to numerous reports, Mr. Marley did not abandon me while pregnant with his child. We have had long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us. Thank you for you concern and I appreciate all the well wishes regarding the birth of my new son.”

Hill has never been shy to speak her mind. Her solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” harped on personal and societal issues, which scored the singer five Grammy wins for her solo career, making her the first female artist to receive six nominations and five wins all in one night.  Shortly after the album’s success, the singer fled the music scene due to her discontentment with fame and the industry.

Even with one studio album, Hill remains a legend. Her ability to speak holistically to the all walks of life, and influence all social classes, gains her the respect most artists are continuously striving to achieve.
