Kirsten Dunst on The Ellen Show

While some stars are doing all they can to show their lives on television, from their marriages, divorces, and dates (in no specific order), some — like the classy Kirsten Dunst, who took a break from acting in 2008 due to a medical condition — have been hiding in the shadows.

The Melancholia actress made her first public appearance in some time yesterday, when she was a guest on Ellen. In the interview, Ellen couldn’t not ask what was on everyone’s mind. “You suffered from depression,” Ellen stated clearly. But Dunst wasn’t exactly ready to tell the world her business, although she kept her manners and did the best to describe her condition:

“It’s not something I feel like totally comfortable talking about, but yeah, it’s a very personal thing . I dealt with it. Yeah. That and it’s also interesting as an actress you’re supposed to be sensitive and vulnerable and have this side to you. But then you’re supposed to be super sociable and ‘on’ and like nice to everybody. That’s a weird dichotomy. It’s a lot to ask of a person. It’s not a normal thing.”

Dunst has been acting since she was 10-years-old, when she starred in Interview with a Vampire before vampires were “in.” Looking stunning in red lipstick, she shares with Ellen that it was important for her to take a break from the Hollywood life, and “take a step back. I had been acting so long, all my life. I think I just needed a little bit of some perspective. It was good for me and it re-inspired what I do, too.” The 29-year-old is happy where she is.

We agree, and think maybe some other stars should take the actress’ tips and take a break already. Cough, Lindsay Lohan, cough.
