KW by Kanye West

There has been speculation for months that Kanye West would be creating his first line to show at Paris Fashion Week, and West has kept quiet about this for awhile. But on Saturday, the amazing musician finally showed his collection to the world.

Kanye West has certainly made an impact in the music world, and now he is taking his chances in the fashion world. West has been a commonly seen face in the front row of fashion shows during New York and Paris fashion weeks, and it now seems that the reason he went to all of those shows was to learn and get inspiration for his line. Many of the designers whose shows he attended were at his show, including Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, and the Olsen sisters. Also in attendance were Anna Wintour and Glenda Bailey.

At first, West was going to do a collaboration with another designer, but many people in the fashion world told him to aim higher, and he did. West’s collection was very interesting.

The collection, which only contained 23 looks, was filled with many different pieces. A lot of the outfits contained a lot of wool, leather and fur, which was different, considering that designers are showing clothes for the spring/summer 2012 season. Also, West showed plenty of skin in his designs. There were multiple outfits with slits open all over.

However, there were some outfits that I did like. For example, there was a long-sleeved tan mini-dress with a fur backpack that looked nice. Also, there was a white long-sleeved top with a crème colored wrap skirt that I liked.

After the show, West said that he was extremely nervous about launching his line. He also said that his greatest fear is being put into the stereotype of being a celebrity designer or a rapper-designer.

I believe that, hopefully, West will continue to grow in fashion.  Who knows, maybe his career as a fashion designer will reach the same heights as his career as a musician.
