Johnny Weir

Johnny Weir, figure skater, reality TV star and clothing designer, can now add “model” to his list of professions.

Weir, who’s taking a year off from skating to focus on building his brand, has just become the new face of MAC’s winter “Glitter and Ice” collection. The NY Post reports that Weir shot the campaign in Miami this month. MAC’s previous male brand ambassadors include gay icons like Elton John and RuPaul.

It’s great that Weir is finally getting endorsements. The last time anyone payed this much attention to figure skating was when Tonya Harding hired someone to beat up Nancy Kerrigan.

In an interview with Howard Stern, the openly gay figure skater noted that all the money he makes goes back into figure skating.  Weir said, “Everything I make goes back into my art…into helping me achieve things that I want to achieve.”

Hopefully this campaign will prevent Weir from trying to record any more singles. Stick to skating, Johnny, and leave the music to the professionals on “The Voice.”
