My love for John Mayer is mostly a result of his music, as his bad-boy persona has gotten a little old over the years–but it seems that the singer may finally be starting to grow up and move away from his past behavior.

In previous relationships, Mayer has more openly discussed his girlfriends and why relationships become problematic, but during his time spent with Katy Perry, the couple stayed out of the tabloids for the most part. The only time I really ever saw them publicly prove that they were in fact a couple was at the Grammys, when the pair was not shy about their PDA (it’s possible that Perry’s super-revealing, green Gucci dress had something to do with it).

When the two were dating, I have to say I was hopeful that maybe Mayer had finally found a functional relationship–although I was wary about Perry, who seems to live a little on the edge (I always thought her and Russell Brand’s divorce was a shame, because the two seemed perfectly matched in degrees of weirdness).

But alas, Perry and Mayer called it quits in March. Surprisingly, not much has been revealed about the cause behind the relationship, and I’m admittedly curious about their breakup. They seemed so happy at the Grammys! On Ellen, Mayer only stated that “coupling is a tricky thing,” and acknowledged that he’s finally learned to show some class by keeping his private life as much out of the tabloids as possible. What gives, Mayer?!

Maybe the 35-year-old is finally going to stop acting like a teenager? Now that the day has finally arrived, I’m not sure how I feel about it. It’s so… not him. But hey, I guess this goes to show that there is still hope that guys will eventually change?

What are your thoughts on the Perry/Mayer breakup? Do you think Mayer’s new privacy standards will last, or he’ll revert back to his old ways?
