As many of you know, Jessica Simpson gave birth to a healthy baby girl seven weeks ago. During her pregnancy, Simpson reportedly hit 210 lbs.; a frowned upon weight in the health and image conscious entertainment industry. Aside from the stress and pressure of being a new mother, Simpson also signed a $4 million dollar deal with Weight Watchers which is conditionally based on her losing 50 lbs. in 5 months.
Weight Watchers has been “voted best weight-loss diet, best commercial diet plan and easiest diet to follow, ” according to the LA Times and U.S. News and World Report. Typical weight loss results are about 1-2 lbs. per week on the program, allowing Simpson’s goal to seem attainable. Simpson has also enlisted the help of celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak and the use of his private gym, a benefit that the “typical” Weight Watchers user does not have. On the other hand, most people involved in the Weight Watchers Program have the benefit of “meetings” that function almost as a support group. I highly doubt that Simpson has the luxury of attending those meetings.
Media outlets such as the NY Daily News are reporting that Simpson is beginning to doubt her ability to fulfill her contract. Hormone fluctuations associated with pregnancy can cause stress and stress can cause weight retention. Also, I personally applaud her efforts and hope she encounters more encouragement than discouragement. Maybe she can ask Jennifer Hudson how she pulled off her transformation.baby weight, Eric Johnson, jennifer hudson, Jessica Simpson, weight loss, Weight Watchers
