Jay-Z

Monday Night hip hop mogul Jay-Z hit the stage for one of the most anticipated performances at SXSW at the Moody Theater in Austin, TX. His performance was lined with back to back hits. Then again, what song does he have that isn’t a hit?

Jay partnered with American Express in an effort to kick off the music portion of SXSW. Because of this, the crowd was mostly made up of American Express users who won their tickets to see the Grammy award winner. This was not the typical crowd you might expect to see at one of his concerts and at times they seemed to be lacking enthusiasm.

The new father opened the night with his single, “What More Can I Say.” I’ve never attended a Jay-Z concert, but this one was ustreamed and will be up all week. I didn’t know what to expect. I know he is a rapper and you can’t really expect dancing. The whole performance was mostly relaxed. Although the venue was packed, it seemed very intimate.

Jay flowed effortlessly through hit after hit and ended the night with a fitting song, “Encore.” You never want a good concert to end. You wish it could go on forever.
