At this point, should it even be news? It has been announced that actor (and director, artist, writer, and student of multiple universities) James Franco is still trying to cover all of his artistic bases by pursuing a music career.
Franco, whom many are still remembering as the unenthusiastic Oscar host from the beginning of this year, is working on this experimental music group with Kalup Linzy, a performance artist most famous for his soap opera satire. Franco and Linzy met when Linzy was asked to perform on “General Hospital” when Franco was a guest star last year. The two will make up duo “Kalup & Franco” and will release their EP in July through the label Dutty Artz of producer DJ /rupture, who will produce two of the three tracks on the EP. It will feature the songs “Rising,” “Turn it Up,” and “Fly Away.”
The duo also plans on shooting videos for all of the songs, so it seems Franco’s directorial skills will also come into use. Right after their album drops, Franco fans can also check out his new film, “The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” And if you really can’t wait to hear his music, you can watch Kalup & Franco performing “Proud Mary” during Campari’s 150th anniversary celebration at the Bowery Hotel below:Tags: actor, dj /rupture, ep, james franco, kalup & franco, kalup linzy, music, musician
