The Smith family are an extremely musical bunch. Will Smith, a rap legend, Jada Pinkett Smith is the lead singer to her band Wicked Wisdom and then you have Jaden and Willow Smith who have musical singles all over the world. From Willow famous “Whip my hair” and Jaden’s rapping skills on Justin Bieber‘s “Never Say Never” single, the two kids show they have some talent.

To start off 2013 Jaden released a song featuring his younger sister called “Kite” and it is receiving a lot of buzz. Firstly, it’s a great song; simple and mellow. Jaden doesn’t show off nor does his sister. It sounds as if he is trying to reach a more mature audience. At only 14,  Jaden’s voice could pass for at least 17. Willow is 12 and she sounds just as old as her brother.

Both of these children do not sound like kids, so who do they sound like that makes this song so perfect for me? Jaden sounds like rapper Tyga. His flow is almost exact. He is particular with his words as if he is just speaking them and a tempo happened to be in the background. It fits the beat perfectly and it was a good move if that was his inspiration.

Willow sounds like Indie singer Kilo Kish; her words are just as particular as her brother’s but when she sings it sounds natural and there was really no thought or action to move to the next octave.

I believe it is fine that they are sounding like this. They are still children finding themselves and many artists have sounded like someone else and have experimented in different sounds. If this is the start of what Jaden and, even Willow, have to bring I will keep an eye out for them.

Do you think this song was a hit or miss?
