Iggy Azalea

The hip-hop world has been waiting for a new female rapper to give us variety and at times a reprieve from rap artists like Nicki Minaj who often get over-played on the radio. I’m personally exhausted from hearing her rap. It’s time to give another female EC a chance to wow us. Femcees like Kreayshawn and Honey Cocaine are coming out of the woodwork for a shot at the crown. I’m all for it. Girls run the world! But none of these women bring as much diversity, talent, and drive to the table as the Australian bombshell, Iggy Azalea.

Born Amethyst, Iggy Azalea was consumed with rap at the age of 11 and began practicing this craft at 14. In 2011 Azalea began uploading videos of herself freestyling on YouTube. These videos became an instant hit. In September of the same year Perez Hilton found her first video, “Pu$$y”, and posted it on his website.

Iggy is not officially signed to a record label but there are talks of her being signed with Def Jam. She recently had dinner with Def Jam exec Bu Thiam and R&B star Rihanna, who is signed with the record label. Afterward Iggy tweeted saying how much fun she had.

Another staff member of Dej Jam also tweeted saying he couldn’t wait until Iggy was officially part of the Dej Jam family. I’m confident that Iggy has found a record label home we just have to wait for the ink to dry.

Being a female rapper can be extremely difficult especially being a white girl but she seems to be pushing full force ahead. On September 27, 2011 Iggy released her first mixtape titled “Ignorant Art.” The mixtape yielded intoxicating and thought provoking songs such as, “Pu$$y”, “My World”, and her newest single “The Last Song.” She is set to release an album this year entitled “The New Classic.” No official release date has been announced yet.

She has a truly unique sound and is a female rapper from Australia who brings a certain southern swag to her music much like the rapper A$AP Rocky, who recently signed a $3 million deal with Sony/RCA. The two are reportedly dating.

In a recent interview with Vibe magazine Iggy talks about her new tattoo on her hands that say, “Live, Love, A$AP” and “The New Classic.” One is the title of her upcoming album and the other is the title of A$AP Rocky’s already existing mixtape. Iggy even hinted that A$AP has a matching tattoo by saying, “We have our own thing going on and I’m not the only one that [got the tattoos]. I’ll tell you that. [Laughs] I’m just the only one with it on my fingers!”

Iggy Azalea's New Tattoo

This new rap sensation seems to have become famous over-night and she’s actually talented! If you’d like to see Iggy as well as her man perform, they both will be at the Bamboozle Festival. The festival runs from May 18th to the 20th. You can buy passes at the festival’s official site.

Iggy has also made a remix to Nicki Minaj’s “Roman in Moscow” entitled “Iggy in Moscow.” I don’t think it’s direct beef with Nicki Minaj, but who is Iggy talking to?
