We all remember our school uniforms from elementary school with the cute little pinafores. I particularly remember mine which was grey in color with a pleated skirt. Although I found it rather hideous looking, there is no doubt that this apron style is extremely cute.
We have seen French maids wearing it in the past, school girls sporting them, Little J ( Jenny Humphrey) from Gossip Girl in a preppy tartan pleated version or more recently, on the Spring 2013 runways! Different designers worked this style differently, sporting the pinafore from tough to sporty to retro.
Although all the spectrums of styles were covered, the leather bondage style pinafore was my favorite. There was definitely something mystical about the bold and strong black leather pinafores which was a key style at Jason Wu. Leather pinafore was just one of the fascinating styles, there were a lot of other styles that really caught my eye.
If bright colors are your thing this season, you will surely love the retro style pinafores. Moschino’s energetic 2013 line was a fabulous mix of 1960s and the flawless style of Audrey Hepburn. Whether a printed one or a plain one in a bright hue, the retro style is great way to look fun and trendy at the same time.
On the other hand, minimalist pinafore dresses also look uber chic. This was characterized by embracing neutral shades, clean cuts, and sophistication at Yigal Azrouel and Christopher Kane!
While the pinafore dress will make you look feminine and flirty, it can be translated to a sportier vibe in an easy and chic manner. The same effortless appeal was recognized in Rag & Bone’s 2013 collection in the coral apron style dress which was all about simplicity with an edge.
So whether you go for a grunge, retro, sophisticated or sporty, or just back to a school like classic tartan, the little pinafore is an effortless and chic way to dress up this season!
So what style are you going to wear this season?
