When Kristen Stewart hobbled onto the Oscar’s red carpet Sunday afternoon, the nation was struck with a surprising surge of indifference. Who even cares anymore? Twilight has come and gone, her scandalous affair has now officially broken up a family, and no one’s seen RPatz in America in the last 2 months. Come to think of it, most of Hollywood’s young elite have been noticeably absent lately. Selena’s busy trying to forget the last 2 years of her life, Miley’s over being mainstream, and even our beloved Serena Van Der Woodsen has been MIA since her show went off the air. There is still Jennifer Lawrence, but let’s face it – the concentrated pressure of America’s obsession and love is a little much for one person to handle, especially if that person is as prone to falling and freaking out as J. Law is. Hollywood is in desperate need of a new It Girl, but who should it be?

Luckily, a classy young lady has been waiting in the wings for the past year or two. And now it’s time for Lily Collins to take center stage. Unconvinced? Here are 5 reasons Lily Collins has got it going on.

She’s doesn’t rely on her daddy’s fame. Don’t be trippin, Collins may be a common last name, but its also the moniker of a music great. Collins. As in Phil Collins. Light bulb moment! Despite having a A-list daddy, Lily has made her own fame. She studied broadcast journalism at USC, however, before graduating, she had already written for Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and Elle Girl UK (that one was technically in high school), and had starred in The Blind Side along with Sandra Bullock. Since graduation, Lily has blossomed into a full fledged movie star, with Abduction and Mirror Mirror. Unless they’re up on their Hollywood lineage, most people don’t even know she has a famous father. Let alone one that has won 7 Grammys.

She has incredible style. Collins got the media’s attention big time when she showed up to the Vanity Fair Oscar’s after party in a navy Zuhair Murad stunner. But this dress is just the most recent in a long line of heavy hitters from the starlet. Her Paule Ka gown from the Costume Designers Guild Awards makes Samantha Barks’ Oscars dress look tame in comparison. And her Balmain dress at the Toronto International Film Festival could have easily been worn by the likes of Heidi Klum or Gwyneth Paltrow. Despite her young age, Collins has already developed an independent and unexpected taste. Her red carpet appearances are always fresh and exciting, as you’ll never guess what she shows up in next. Certainly not Converse…cough cough.

Fresh-faced franchise. To truly attain It Girl status in Hollywood, you need a franchise. Who was Miley before “Hannah Montana?” Or Kristen before “Twlight?” One step away from nobody. Now they’re megastars. Luckily for Lily, her ticket aboard the big name fame train comes this August with the release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.  Based off a book series (there are 6, count ‘em – 6! That’s a hell of a lot of movies) by Cassandra Clare, City of Bones centers around a group of supernatural people called Shadowhunters. Their mission? To hunt demons and protect the innocent. What they actually end up doing? Falling into helpless love triangles with an added twist of family drama, magic, and the casual attempted war on humanity. Collins will portray protagonist, Clary Fray, AKA: token sassy ginger. E! has already named City of Bones one of the most anticipated films of 2013, so all we need to do is wait to watch Collins evolve from a star to a super nova. Check out the trailer below.

The next Robsten? Another thing Collins has gained from City of Bones? Her British beau, Jamie Campbell Bower. In the film, he plays opposite her as love interest, Jace Wayland. It’s only too Edward and Bella of them to fall for each other in real life, too. Plus, added Robsten-reminiscent drama – he shacked up with Collins lightning fast after the demise of his engagement to Bonnie Wright. And he was in Twilight. So the blonde Volturi left Ginny Weasley for Lily Collins? Yup. Try and tell me that isn’t some tabloid-worthy dramz for our soon-to-be superstar.

Those brows. This may not be as legitimate of a qualification of an It Girl, but let’s face it – big brows are in. They basically ushered Cara Delevingne into supermodel status, and now they’re working their same magic for Collins. They already have 650 followers on Twitter. Just sayin.

Are you excited for Lily Collins’s reign as Hollywood’s next It Girl?
