Gucci Resort Collection 2012

Resort collections are always challenging. You often see designers going a tad too edgy or a little too informal. All designers excel in exhibiting talent on their couture and RTW but rarely do we see designer actually surpassing expectations with the resort. Resort is an ‘in-between’ collection. In between jobs, in between seasons, in between the holiday…

Frida Giannini truly celebrated Gucci’s 90th anniversary through her resort this year. WWD states that the collection is “chic as well as fabulous,” whereas I deem it to be subtle. The use of neutral colors like yellow, black, white, and nude with snakeskin and zebra prints as accessories was incorporated in the collection this year. I loved the way Gucci paid homage to the neutral trend, which has not be seen a lot this year. Frida Giannini, who reins conceivably the most powerful Italian fashion house, really surpassed the other collections which lacked a certain resort quintessence (see Chanel and Just Cavalli).

Gucci Resort Collection 2012

It is easy to say that I like everything about the collection. Gucci actually created a trend and went beyond the clichéd color. Gucci’s resort collection is something which will definitely be worn this season.
