The awards season is finally here, and it is tradition to judge the attendees based on attire. This year, many went with a minimalist look. While most women pulled off their dresses stunningly, there were a select few that didn’t impress.

Here are my favorite and not-so-favorite minimalist looks from the night:

Looking flawless in a red Christian Dior, Jennifer Lawrence wins with simplicity. The Silver Linings Playbook actress looked elegantly down-to-earth with an easy up-do,  mini clutch, and a simple belt. She is easily one of my favorite red carpet looks of tonight. But she’s not the only one who can pull off simplicity in red.

Zooey Deschanel also looked radiant in a glamorous, red Oscar de la Renta. She kept it flirty with her ponytail, yet elegant with a classy pearl necklace. As much as I loved her elegance, I was glad to see that the New Girl star stayed true to her quirky-ness with her camera-reeled nails, which was very different, yet fitting for the occasion.

Jessica Alba, also in Oscar de la Renta, brings minimalism to the next level. She kept it simple with a monochromatic theme, but added some flair with her bold diamonds and a fuzzy clutch. Definitely on the best dressed list.

Anne Hathaway shows us how to do it right with white. The Les Miserables star wows us with her effortless chic look.  Her healthy glow definitely completes her look. A great ensemble for her win.

Neither a hit or a miss, Hayden Panettiere, Megan Fox, and Amy Adams all opted for a safe choice. They kept it simple with their neutral nude shade of mermaid style gowns. The former Heroes star kept it girly with her pink clutch, while the other two kept it plain and simple.

While Taylor Swift often dresses and impresses, she did not fully meet my expectations with her Scarlett Johansson inspired look. There’s something about the top half of the dress, this just isn’t her best look.

A very elegant gown, rich in color by Donna Karan; the dress holds a good balance between sexy and classy. I can’t argue that Swift doesn’t look drop-dead-gorgeous, but there’s a problem when the side and/or back view looks better than the full frontal. Dress fitting aside, the pop star does it right with an elegant up-do and matching earrings.

Minimalism definitely goes with the overall aura of the Golden Globes. Who were your favorite looks of the night?
