Okay Gleeks, hold onto your microphones! Darren Criss, aka Blaine, aka Kurt Hummel’s boy toy on the hit Fox TV show Glee, will be making his Broadway debut in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying this month.
Oh, how the New Year brings such good things!
Darren will be taking over the character of J. Pierrepont Finch from Daniel Radcliffe, aka Harry Potter, after a successful and critically acclaimed run on the Broadway stage since the revival of the show began at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in March 2011. With Radcilffe at the helm, the production was nominated for a whopping nine Tony Awards in 2011.
John Larroquette, who won the 2011 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of J.B. Biggley, will also be departing the production. Beau Bridges will be replacing Larroquette until July 2012.
Criss succeeding Radcliffe seems somewhat ironic as Darren also played Harry Potter in Starkid’s musical productions A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel.
But what does this mean for his character, Blaine, on Glee?
Unfortunately, Darren’s Broadway debut will only last for three weeks from Jan. 3, 2012 to Jan. 22, 2012. This means there will only be one Blaine-less episode when season three resumes on Jan. 17, 2012 that will probably air sometime in February.
Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brothers will be stepping in after Darren departs—pretty big shoes to fill if you ask me.
Don’t worry my fellow Gleeks, I have already purchased my ticket to see Darren’s inevitably amazing performance and will definitely be reporting back to you.
