G.O.O.D. Music

The past few months have been all about great success for the GOOD Music label and its artists.

Pusha-T received an astounding response to his mixtape, “Fear of God” and he even snagged himself a spot on HBO’s “How to Make It in America.” Kid Cudi has made a name for himself in the acting world with his skills on “How to Make It in America” and has been making some noise with his outstanding music performances. Big Sean has made it to the No. 2 spot on the iTunes chart with his debut album, “Finally Famous” and it’s looking like it will go to No. 1. Even the GOOD Music owner, Kanye West, has everyone running circles waiting for his highly anticipated Jay-Z collaboration album, “Watch the Throne.” With all of this taking place, what more do they really need?

How about a major deal with Def Jam? A few days ago, West signed a major deal with Island Def Jam and Big Sean was named their flagship artist. Releasing Big Sean’s debut album, “Finally Famous” through the Island Def Jam and GOOD Music, they have started out on the right foot. Though Kanye has not released a statement yet in regards to the deal, others have:

Pusha-T:

“I think the whole G.O.O.D. Music-Def Jam thing can only be good,” says Pusha-T. “A machine like Def Jam, and the artistry that GOOD Music has… it’s a match made in heaven.”

Barry Weiss, CEO of Universal Motown Republic Group:

“G.O.O.D. Music is an exciting new chapter in the long and successful association of Kanye West and Island Def Jam,” said Mr. Weiss. “As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye. We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing toG.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean.”

Steve Bartels, President of Island Def Jam Music Group:

“Kanye’s genius has been proven time and time again on records and onstage,” said Mr. Bartels. “He not only pours it out for himself, but he has made the difference with his presence on innumerable projects with other artists who are indebted to him. Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront.”

So what is going to be next for G.O.O.D. Music now that they have inked this deal? We can only patiently wait and see. My guess is that they’ll continue to take things to the next level.
