Florence Welch

Fans of haute couture and indie soul will be pleased to know that Florence Welch, the redhead power vocalist of Florence + the Machine, is the inspiration for Gucci’s 2011 fall/winter line. Past muses hand-selected by Frida Giannini, current Creative Director of the revered fashion house, have included Rihanna, Evan Rachel Wood, and James Franco.

On why Giannini seems to have strayed from the outright sex appeal we Gucci enthusiasts have kind of become accustomed to, she explained to Dazed Digital:

“As I was imagining this collection I was thinking of a strong and somewhat mysterious muse. Florence is that kind of woman. I met her in Los Angeles at this year’s Grammys and was captivated by her presence. She has a powerful personality and an entrancing quality to her performances. She also has that confident and self assured look that goes hand in hand with the Gucci woman.”

With a campaign featuring Florence hopefully in the making, no one exactly knows what to expect. Will Gucci tone down the seduction-driven campaigns for the more flowy atmosphere we’re so used to seeing from the “Cosmic Love” singer? We still aren’t sure, but we definitely know that Flo should give a call to best friend, Blake Lively, a seasoned expert in the fashion world. Lively has been the muse for not only Christian Louboutin, the innovator of the red-soled pump, but also Creative Director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, and has been chummy with both designers for the past couple of years. Take notes, Florence!
